Masterclasses

"I’d like to say a huge thank you for such a wonderful course. It feels like I’m part of something now. A whole new world that’s opened up after all the years I’ve been sat alone at my desk freelancing.

I wish I’d done it years ago!”

Attendee of one of Donna Ferguson's masterclasses

Revitalise your freelance career with Donna Ferguson

Maybe you’re just starting out in freelance journalism and want some pointers. Maybe you’ve been doing it for a while and are feeling dispirited and stuck in a rut.

  • What is the secret to being a successful freelance print journalist - how do other people get dream commissions, not rejections?

  • What do editors actually want to see in pitches?

  • And how can you improve chances of writing a successful pitch, especially to an editor you don’t know?

Donna Ferguson hosts masterclasses which aim to answer these questions and empower as many women as possible to make a huge success of their freelance careers.

The masterclasses are currently exclusively for members of the non-profit organisation Women in Journalism (WiJ), which aims to improve equality and diversity in journalism in the UK.

These online classes, which sell out every year, aim to be very practical and unpick how freelance print journalism actually works, with real life examples of successful pitches and cold calling emails to editors.

There is a chance to ask questions at the end of each session, and the intention is that you will not only leave feeling more confident, but less alone.

“I watched the recording of your webinar today and have to say it’s one of the most useful freelance advice seminars I  have ever seen." - a recent attendee
